About the Program:

The goal of our garden is to be able to create a fun educational environment that will allow our students to learn a skill that can be utilized during their time at Beacon Hill as well as long after they have left our school. Being that 90% of our students are Amish or strict Mennonite, we know that most of our students will work within the community that they currently live in. Most of our students will also work in trade careers such as carpentry, agriculture, or restaurant type positions. It is our goal to give our students the education they need to be successful in whatever career/college choices they make. The majority of the Amish culture does not attend school past the 8th grade. Our school is located in a lower economic area where this form of education is essential. It will teach the students a skill to provide for themselves, their family, and their community as well as encourage them to make healthy eating decisions in the process.
