About the Program:

The Bamfield community school would like to establish a greenhouse for growing vegetables for the students during the school year. Harvested produce will be used for the school lunch program and the community food bank. The garden will also be used as a learning tool and integrated into the school curriculum. Community members will benefit by joining in on gardening event days and as a site for gardening workshops. This addition to the school and community is highly desired in a location that must transport fresh food from a town that is a four hour ferry ride away. This situation limits the quantity and quality of fresh vegetables our students consume. Students need a balanced diet to; remain focused, generate energy, and support a healthy immune system. By providing a suitable garden for the children to plant, grow and harvest vegetables, they not only reap the benefits of eating a healthy meal but also learn the importance of growing their own food and the skill for doing so.
