About the Program:

We began a small garden when we started our school in 2005. Since then we have developed an entire eco-wellness program that is now part of our core curriculum. We use this garden, in tandem with our composting system and chicken coop, to teach our students a holistic approach not only to science, but to everyday life. Each of our grade levels are responsible for maintaining portions of the garden for the school year as part of the learning process. They help with soil testing, prepare beds, they pull weeds, and they plant seeds and seedlings throughout the year and document what happens after each of these acts. Our goal for our garden is to continue to be an integral tool in teaching our kids very valuable and practical science information while allowing them to gain hands-on experience as well. Our goal for our garden is to do natural irrigation with rainwater collection and manipulation. Our school is so blessed to have this program and we want to support it in any way we can!
