About the Program:

The APA Edible Schoolyard Committee strives is to promote better eating and "horticultural literacy" for students, staff and faculty of the school. More specifically our objectives are to:

- Educate students about nutrition through the context of food,

- Reinforce school learning objectives & curriculum goals

- Develop a successful, sustainable whole foods nutrition and gardening education programming for APA cafeteria students, parents, and neighbors,

- Create resources for teachers who desire to implement nutrition and gardening education programming within their classes,

- Encourage community, parent, and volunteer participation in school gardening and nutrition education activities.

Through the achievement of these objectives we hope to advance our community's progress toward food security starting with our own low-income Vine City neighborhood. This grant would help us advance that goal by providing us with additional tools and tool storage capacity.

This program is supported by Environmental Community Action.
