Anderson Valley Elementary School
This garden grant will make it possible for our school to expand and develop an existing area next to our current garden site. The goal of our expanded garden area is to enable the school to not only educate the kids, but for them to be instrumental in planting, producing, and harvesting enough fruits and vegetables to supply our school cafeteria on a regular basis by incorporating it into the lunch menu and for kids to have healthy snacks. Supplying our kids with healthy, organic, local produce is a high priority along with teaching them about nutrition and healthy eating habits. The growth of Anderson Valley's School Garden is extremely important, and has the support of many members of our school and wider community. Students will have an opportunity to apply their knowledge and love for gardening in the school garden, in the high school Ag Farm and by furthering their passions right here in Anderson Valley through AV Ed Foundation internships in one of many local Farms and businesses. Growing healthy kids by teaching them and feeding them healthy foods, will inevitably lead to a healthy community.
