Amigos School
During the school year, CitySprouts program integrates the school garden into the curriculum. A partnership with the City of Cambridge science department means that many Massachusetts framework science lessons have garden extensions written into them so that teachers have the option of teaching lessons in the garden. For example, the unit Living Things has a garden extension so that a teacher has the option of working in the garden. Our goal is to get as many teachers as we can to use the garden for teaching science, math, social studies (etc.) either on their own or with the help of the Garden Coordinator. During the summer, in the Summer Youth Program, our goal is to educate up to 100 youth on gardening and cooking skills and food access. Out of school time during the fall and spring, CitySprouts supports Amigos parents with a school drop in held for families afterschool once per week. Families can use the garden to learn about gardening, cooking and small maintenance projects.
This program is supported by Friends of Amigos School, Inc..
