Adair County Elementary School

ACES's edible garden goal is to encourage healthier eating habits in our students and their families.

Our district's two elementary schools were recently reshuffled and with that change came staff changes. Mrs. Bradshaw had an award winning, successful K-2 after school environmental education class for 15+ years. When she came to ACES, she immediately began raising support for an environmental education with the 3rd - 5th graders. She began teaching the Green Team, ACES's first EE after school class and in cooperation with others, taught complementary summer classes as well. She reached out to like minds within the school including the Family Resource Coordinator: Debbie Cowan, the art teacher: Paula Bault, Steve Burton: the principal, and other staff members. The committee decided to reach out to grantors to locate funding to build the physical spaces of the school garden. This grant will speed up our ability to begin our growing season this spring.
