Stanislaus Food &Nutrition Network (SFNN)

The Stanislaus Food & Nutrition Network (SFNN) is a diverse set of local stakeholders; consisting of farmers, government and non-government agencies, local businesses, and schools coordinating Farm to Community efforts throughout Stanislaus County to ensure consistent, cohesive messages that promote healthy lifestyles and support locally grown produce. Farm to Community empowers communities to make informed food choices while strengthening the local economy and contributing to a vibrant community and has cross-sectoral benefits which impact public health, the economy, education, and the environment. Our partners include individuals representing Community Based Organizations, Food Banks, Food Procurement Organization, Government Agencies, Local Farmers, Preschools, and School Districts.

Agriculture serves as the backbone of Stanislaus County, which is home to over 2,200 growers producing over 230 commodities including a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (Stanislaus County Agriculture Crop Report 2014). Despite Stanislaus County’s bountiful resources, the county faces challenges of food insecurity, obesity, and some of the worst chronic disease rates in the state. Farm to Community is vital in addressing these issues as well as supporting the wellbeing and sustainability of our community.

The mission of SFNN is to increase education, access, and consumption of locally produced nutritious foods by building partnerships and collaboration across all sectors of the community that will support a resilient and sustainable food economy.
