About the Program:

We are a K3-12 private Christian School in the suburbs of Atlanta with ~1900 total students from 90 different zip codes.

We started an Environmental Learning Center in our Elementary School in 2014. We took a part a parking lot and build a large glass Greenhouse, chicken coop, fish pond, green-roof shed, and a permaculture food forest. Included in our area we are equipped with some hydroponic grow towers, a Nelson & Pade Aquaponics system, vermiculture system, botanical tropical rainforest area, rainbow trout hatchery, etc. We work weekly with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and monthly with K, 1st, and 2nd. Our class schedule is regarded as a 'Specials' class alongside Art, Music, Spanish, and Media Literacy.

The ELC is a Science-based program in which students are inspired and equipped to admire God’s creation. Students will have the opportunity to experience not only the beauty of our environment but, also it’s functionality. Curriculum is based partly on bringing awareness to students on our dependence of nature in our everyday lives, and also on the natural processes of nature including plant biology. Students are engaged in frequent hands-on activities using our Center’s plethora of interactive resources including chickens, trout hatchery, tropical rainforest garden, worm composting bin, edible food forest, aquaponic and hydroponic systems, pond ecosystem, gardens, etc.

Our goal is to expand our students’ worldview and deepen their understanding for how the earth functions and the reality of how dependent we are on the environment that we live in.

My goal everyday is to inspire students to admire the incredible wealth of information and beauty around them in the nature.
