Our Missions:

Edible Schoolyard AIWA (located at Aiwa Elementary School) would like to help students:

  • learn where our food comes from
  • to develop an appreciation for the taste of vegetables using all of their senses;
  • to understand the meaning and true value of the web of life;
  • to develop empathy and love for other living things and nature, and
  • to nurture an attitude of corporation, an appreciation for companionship and a sense of achievement.

Also, we would like to integrate school requirements with Edible Schoolyard curriculum as much as possible.

Curriculum Goals:

We have the following six learning objectives for the garden and kitchen classes.  We design the curriculum to include the units below.

  1. Vegetable Cultivation
  2. Nutrition and Food Systems
  3. Observation of Living Systems
  4. Developing a Sense of Place (and learning about the local community)
  5. Nutrient Cycle
  6. Arts and Crafts
