About the Program:

Our program is called “From Tower to Tray” or more commonly known as Seed to Feed. We started a school garden last year in an abandoned greenhouse located at our High School. With a little TLC and the awesome support of our AG students and our maintenance crew the greenhouse was made useable to us for our Tower Gardens. I decided to use the Aeroponic vertical gardening system because it allowed our garden to be mobile to display in cafeterias, take to classrooms or at family event nights. They require less space, energy and water than conventional gardens and they yield a faster harvest. What I’ve learned this last year is that it takes a team committed to teaching our youth the importance of growing and consuming fresh produce! Our expected outcome was to enhance our student’s health through the consumption of fresh produce and to teach them the value of growing their very own food, and we did just that. We opened the Garden up to the community for viewing and tasting and to our school for tours, educating and harvesting. We were able to educate over 800 students, teachers and community on the importance of growing your own pesticide free produce. We are looking to expand our current garden so we can reach more of our students and community. Our current greenhouse is suseptablet to mold and is quite small. We really need more space and would love to install some raised beds to teach the students about traditional gardening.
