About the Program:

Potomack Intermediate is located in a rural community with many of agricultural ties and careers in farming. Many of the teachers at Potomack Intermediate have background experience with Future Farmers of America, 4H, STEM garden based learning, and other agricultural education organizations. The goal of this school garden is to promote career based experiences and to connect curriculum instruction to the community and economy of the area. The garden will also help to increase hands on learning experiences, cross curricular instruction, and differentiated instruction. Obesity is a prevalent health concern for many students in West Virginian. This garden will expose students to healthier foods and help them gain a better understanding of balanced diets and nutritional value as well. Overall, garden based learning would be beneficial for students, teachers, and the community for numerous reasons. The staff at Potomack Intermediate are dedicated to creating an environment in which all children succeed and this garden would help with reaching that goal.
