About the Program:

Our school is taking its initial steps in planning and designing its garden. We believe that a school garden can bring many benefits and learning opportunities to our kids and to our community.

Our goal is to build an edible garden that will serve as an outdoor classroom that is functional, brings fun hands on experience, and that is a place to help children learn more about where their food comes from.
We will start small in the first year, with either a container garden or with raised beds. We would like to plant different types of herbs, vegetables and perhaps some fruit bushes or trees and native varieties. In the future, we may consider adding a compost bin, water collector, tool shed, white boards, seating, and measuring tools.

Additional efforts such as partnerships, donations and funding that will help with appropriate management and maintenance of the garden will be coordinated.

We envision that our garden will help integrate a variety of subjects such as math, art, social studies, community service, and science, and that it will provide an opportunity for observation, experimentation, and learning to all students at Beverly Farms Elementary School.
