About the Program:

The College Hill Community Garden currently has four raised beds. All of the food cultivated from the garden is given to students in need at College Hill and the Kansas Food Bank. This garden provides all students an opportunity to learn about cultivating produce and gives opportunities for teachers to present lessons to their students about healthy eating.
This grant would make it possible to beautify and protect the garden area. Large lawn care machines have a difficult time getting around the beds which lead to a lot of weeds. These unsightly weeds could be decreased with a more polished landscaped area around the beds. The beds are also currently not blocked off with a gate that is much needed. The College Hill community would also like to have a pathway to make it ADA accessible to students, parents, and staff in wheelchairs. In addition to the brick walkway along the garden we would like to add a wrought iron fence and gate around the perimeter of the garden.
