About the Program:

San Joaquin wants our students to be life-long learners and have an increasing awareness of buying local produce, as well as eco-fiendly gardening. We want our students to be curious and independent. We want our students to be prepared to solve problems in the real world. Teachers and students will be using the Common Core State Standards, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards to implement the teaching of science standards that will be met by the design and care of this planned garden project. Teachers have already used (in the planning stages) and will continue to design math and life-science lessons around their gardens. The students will contribute to the planting and maintenance of their grade level gardens. They will explore the concepts of weather, heat transfer, erosion, water conservation, and life cycles via the hands on garden. Additionally, students and community volunteers will come together to collaborate and use critical thinking.
