About the Program:

Our main goal is to begin a garden at our school. Research has shown that having a garden on campus increases students' academic achievement. Having a garden on campus increases staff, parents, community and student involvement. Once we begin our garden our goal is to grow and harvest edible plants and vegetables. This will help students appreciate the process of growing their own crops. Having a garden will educate the students the importance of the nutrients and vitamins that these crops have when they are organically home grown rather than purchasing them at their local super market. This project will also help teach the students the importance of responsibility, time management, following directions, decision making, and working cooperatively within a group. Obtaining this grant will help us get our garden started by helping us purchase the items needed to break ground, plant, and harvest our crops.
