About the Program:

Our goal is to extend our garden so that our school can become a green school and not simply a school with a garden. We have seen the tremendous impact that the vegetable garden is already having and want to see that extended to include additional learning spaces around the perimeter of the school with fruit trees to create a small orchard, knowing that this will further the experiences and learning of the children. Many families at our school live in apartment dwellings where there is little to no space available for gardening of any kind. Even those in homes have very little yard space and few opportunities to learn about gardening or growing plants. A garden is unique way to build a community of learners who work together, while at the same time build life skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking skills and creativity, in a way that sitting in a classroom cannot. Including the entire campus will further enrich this learning experience.
