About the Program:

Our community garden project will focus on the essential question, "How do we empower children and adults to live sustainably in order to positively affect the world?” A variety of organic vegetable gardens and fruit trees/bushes will be planted and maintained on underutilized school grounds to be used as educational tools as well as a source of food for our school community. We will plant vegetables, herbs and fruits trees that are accessible to the students, allowing them to learn about where food comes from while also providing healthy snacks. We can grow fruit trees and bushes to showcase edible landscaping and the students will learn that many of the things we eat have a long distance to travel before they come to the supermarket. Each of these gardens will include benches and educational signage for community education. Our school family will sow seeds, nurture plants, collaborate with community members, harvest produce, and return any waste to a compost for recycling.
