Streiber Elementary
Our garden goals are to utilize the Common Core Science and Math curriculum while encouraging children to be more involved in the growing of their food. Our school has an almost 50% low-income population. Our garden will not just educate our students but provide fresh organic vegetables that they can enjoy with their families at home. Hopefully, by bringing fresh produce home it will help encourage healthy eating and relieve some of the hardships of providing food for their family.
Our hopes are that eventually our garden will be productive enough to not only supply food for our cafeteria but to also donate fresh produce to our local food bank. A local organic farm, called Red Fire Farm, has agreed to provide seeds, fertilizer, and support with the building of our school garden in exchange for some monetary compensation. Red Fire Farm is a local organic farm and will have their farmers come in to speak to the children about the process and importance of organic farming.
