About the Program:

Our Food Garden provides hands-on learning in ecology, biology, agriculture, nutrition, history, language and the arts. But new teachers often lack the confidence and knowledge to weave the Food Garden into their classroom teaching. This grant supports skill building through workshops, nurturing positive relationships around food and the environment.

Our food crops allow many uses — from informal foraging to our annual Heritage Dinner. Interplanted medicinal and culinary herbs balance the garden ecosystem, along with native plants for pollinators. Our Global Routes garden engages families from diverse cultural backgrounds in the life of the school.

Equipping students with the skills to grow their own food promotes local agriculture, addresses climate change and increases ecological awareness. Hands-on experience growing food empowers us to make healthy and responsible eating choices. Growing organically fosters an understanding of symbiotic relationships and a healthy ecosystem.
