About the Program:

The garden will provide students throughout the school community, including students with different abilities, access to a learning environment that is hands on and multi-sensory. It will provide an opportunity for many students to learn where food comes from and have an opportunity to be pat of the process of growing the food. Many of the students have not had prior experience with a garden or knowledge of how food is sourced and that it is possible to source food locally. The garden would give the students the opportunity to learn about the science of growing food, the needs of proper, organic nutrient rich soils, and it will also provide exposure to foods that have not been previously experienced. It will provide teachers with a starting point to provide instruction in balanced nutrition and health. An important goal is for the garden to be fully organic. A vision for the garden is to eventually establish a community farmer's market that involves the students.
