North High
After touring Growing Power in Milwaukee, and seeing urban agriculture in action our dream is to construct our own hoop house on site at Oshkosh North. In this project students would have hands on experience in design, construction, engineering, vermicomposting, system analysts, aquaponics, planting and harvesting. The produce and fish that they would produce would be used by North Family and Consumer Education classes, donated to the local food pantry and sent home with needy students. The Vermicomposting would be packaged and sold. Students would be responsible for all aspects of operating a business including writing a business plan, constructing a budget, legal aspects, marketing and sales. Proceeds would be used to keep the hoop house sustainable for years to come. The hoop house would be used by North agriculture classes, Communities School at North, North science classes, Special Education classes, and our extended learning program. In addition the high school student would use the hoophouse to teach other partners and elementary students about sustainability. Living in Wisconsin we felt that construction of a hoop house would better meet our school year needs.
