Friends Meeting School
The Great Garden Heroes (GGH) is a student driven group in charge of Friends Meeting School edible gardens. Made up of 1st through 4th graders it created a mission statement that states “to use our school garden to promote community by working together….. to help us practice our Quaker values......Through gardening students will learn.....how to love being outside....(and) encourage our community to eat healthy foods.” The organizations goals are to learn how to grow fruits and vegetables; to practice stewardship of our environment and our bodies; and to donate fresh vegetables and fruit to a family in need. Great Garden Heroes will be working with long time school partner, The Frederick Food Bank to respectfully identify a family in need. In October students presented GGH at an all community meeting. Kiera, a second grader, said, "We love being outside. We grew tomatoes, carrots, radishes, flowers, peppers, and more. In math we made a delicious salad using our FMS tomatoes."
