Stony Brook School
Westford is a typical American community whereby the youth has been exposed to the convenience of processed foods and fast food culture. The goal of this garden is to educate our students on where food comes from, to appreciate real food to improve children’s health and wellness through nutrition. Enhancing the existing school garden and introducing more students, teachers and parents to increase participation in the garden will make it possible for better programming at the school to help create a richer understanding of how our food systems work, our nutritional needs and how important plants and vegetables and fit into their lives. Exposing students to different vegetables, tasting them raw or cooking them into a meal can add to the student’s appreciation of real foods, fostering the love of real foods rather than the fast food option. Bringing the crops to the Westford Farmers Market would have a positive impact with the students, school and community.
