White Mountains Regional High School
The White Mountains Regional High School Horticulture Program spends a great deal of class time discussing edible food gardens, permaculture, and the importance of agricultural sustainability. We have a high-tunnel greenhouse we utilize annually for vegetable and fruit production, however, we are limited to what we can grow, and the equipment we have to use for planting, harvesting, and preparing the ground. With the help of this whole foods grant we will be able to acquire the additional resources we need for a successful vegetable and fruit garden. Our school has a culinary arts program interested in using our fresh produce in their class, along with the school cafeteria. This year we also plan to have additional produce available for distribution throughout the community, our students are responsible for the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of the garden and will also develop a long term plan for success and community integration with the garden.
