Alta Elementary

The Alta Elementary Whole School Garden Project will build and sustain a community garden that will allow students to better understand and participate in their food production. The grant will allow Alta Elementary to reach the following goals through the garden: 1) The garden will foster community through local partnerships, parents, volunteers, alumni, local businesses, and the current Alta staff and students in a cooperative learning environment; 2) The garden will help the community understand and participate in the local and sustainable production of the food we eat in order to foster healthy lifestyle choices; 3) The garden will assist students in understanding the science, local cultural appreciation, and innovation surrounding the subject of farming; and 4) The garden will integrate the learning standards in reading, math, science, history, writing, and health in a collaborative and explorative learning approach.
