About the Program:

The students at Medrano Elementary benefit most from the hands-on learning opportunities and exposure to healthy food and fitness choices offered by the school garden. Through sensory observations and inquiry-driven methods, math, science, and other subjects come alive in the outdoors. As a result, students develop content knowledge and learning strategies for the long-term, helping them achieve far more than just passing scores on standardized tests. And the garden serves as a locus of community involvement, most notably parents and grandparents who had not previously seen a place for themselves at the school. Also, the financial support of Whole Kids Foundation would help provide support for our Real School Garden.
