About the Program:

The Laboratory Schools are home to the youngest members of the
University of Chicago's academic community. We ignite and nurture
an enduring spirit of scholarship, curiosity, creativity, and
confidence. We value learning experientially, exhibiting
    kindness, and honoring diversity.

The Home Economics and Sustainability program serves to educate
students about where their food comes from, how to choose and
prepare a balanced variety of foods, and to explore their place
in our ecosystem, with an emphasis on environmental impacts.
Please tell us about the population your program serves:
Laboratory school students hail from all areas of Chicago and its
surrounding suburbs. Approximately half of our families are
affiliated with the University of Chicago-- parents who are
professors, doctors, or staff of the university send their
children here. This infuses the school with the belief that
education extremely important. Intellectual inquiry and discovery
    is highly valued here.
