About the Program:

If awarded a grant we intend to use the funds to purchase the necessary tools and materials to construct and maintain an above ground garden on the school's campus. All of the work will be performed with the students and directed/managed by school staff and parental volunteers. We will incorporate lessons in math, environmental studies (including soil studies, environmental impacts, hydrology and biology), humanities and fostering teamwork. The project will involve students of all grades at the academy with the construction being done by the higher grades and the planting and daily care being performed by the lower grades. We will share the harvested food with both the students and the local food banks that serve the homeless in our area.
