About the Program:

Our school garden offers students a unique opportunity to apply knowledge gained inside the classroom. Inside the classroom students learn about a host of topics surrounding plants, nutrition and gardening. Outside the classroom, utilizing the school garden, students are able to apply all knowledge gained inside the classroom to prep the garden, identify which plants grow best during the planting season, maintain the school garden and harvest and cook all fruits and vegetables harvested from the garden. Our goal is that our students apply the knowledge and tangible skills gained through the "Growing Healthy Habits" curriculum and school garden beyond the school gates. Our goal is that our students implement the same healthy habits taught in the classroom in their homes and spread the same knowledge within their community. The garden grant acts as an initiator within the scoop of the project. With the garden grant our school will have the capacity to off set the cost of the tools and equipment necessary to continue to sustain our School Garden. The scoop and wonderful benefits of the "Growing Health Habits" curriculum heavily depends on the sustainability of our school garden.
