About the Program:

We want to use the Whole Kids Foundation Garden Grant to:
-Operate the greenhouse, positively impacting both our snack program and curriculum
-Expand the use of our existing Vermiculture Compost System
-Engage inner-city children with urban organic agriculture, increasing their ecological literacy and environmental knowledge
-Break down barriers and empower children to make educated, healthy food choices and integrate fresh produce into their daily experience
The opportunity to improve the dormant greenhouse on our roof is an exceptional way to inspire our urban inner-city children, imbedding the importance of healthy eating and offering a social and physical outlet. Incorporating the produce from the greenhouse into our struggling snack program not only saves this incredibly vital program from a financial point of view, but also ensures our children are consuming nutrient dense produce for years to come. Operating the greenhouse will also continue to build relationships with our community as we foresee their involvement in many stages of growing and harvesting, especially as we add raised bed gardening in 2014.
