About the Program:

MCG works with the Stoklosa school community to vision, implement, and train volunteers in urban organic food production as a tool for hands on, experiential learning. The Goal of the Build-A-Garden to be located at the Stoklosa School is to: Provide garden education opportunities for students and volunteers in order to promote gardening, fresh food, health and wellness.

We will do this by:
1. Supporting teachers to include garden programming and the outdoor classroom within state curriculum requirements
2. Engaging parents and volunteers in garden support and maintenance
3. Teaching safe gardening practices for city lots including theft and violence prevention, soil remediation, and related issues

This grant will make it possible for students in grades 5-8 at the Stoklosa School to have access to a gardening experience, to expand the food choices to include fresh vegetables, and to understand the role the garden has in our health and the health of our community as a whole.
