About the Program:

Our goal is to expand our K garden to reach all grade levels in our school and provide children with enjoyable education about food, horticulture and their natural environment. We wish to positively influence their food choices, provide life sciences education outside a classroom and begin composting food waste. Our garden will provide edible resources for food preparation. We can encourage children to choose healthy food by engaging them in fun, hands-on experiences growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing food from a young age.
Children are more likely to experiment with food they have grown or prepared. As some children do not receive positive experiences with healthy food and eating at home, our school wants to help fill this gap, and teach children practical skills that help them be responsible for their own physical well-being. Our garden will provide edible resources for food preparation. The garden teaches children how best to use the resources we have and develop an appreciation of the wide range of possibilities for both cooking and gardening.
