About the Program:

The goal of the Green Thumbs' raised garden beds is to provide school and community based work experience for all students with disabilities. With the addition of 4 raised beds, the garden will be accessible to more students, especially students with physical disabilities. Through their work in the garden, students will acquire work behaviors and marketable job skills while learning about the food chain.
Through their sales at the farm market, students will practice expressive language and math skills. In turn, the community partners and patrons see our students in a positive light and begin to realize their potential rather than their disabilities.
Plants grow better in raised beds because the soil is deep, loose and fertile. The result will be greater yields and more opportunities for students to sell or share with the community partners such as food bank, shelters or restaurants. We currently donate a portion of each harvest to the restaurant at the farm market.
