Eisenhower Elementary
Eisenhower Elementary currently has no outdoor learning space. To bring the classroom outside, we plan to create a series of raised beds and a pollinator garden in a 300-square-foot vacant location between the school's main entrance and the playground. We are calling this the "Pumpkin Patch" (because the first year we will plant pumpkins) and "Bee Friends Garden." This space will be used throughout the curriculum: In the Spring, First Grade will plant pumpkin seeds; in the Fall, Kindergarten students will count ladybugs (and their spots), while Second Grade identify the insects they observe in the garden, and work with community volunteers to prepare the raised beds for the following Spring. The Pumpkin Patch and Bee Friends garden will provide a place for our community to demonstrate pride and can-do spirit. It will be a place parents and children can come and work together, and enjoy doing something positive for their community and each other.
