About the Program:

A school garden is a natural extension of the classroom experience that will enrich all subject areas. It is a positive learning environment where children will have the opportunity to nurture and care for seedlings and plants. A garden teaches cooperation, patience, responsibility, and increases self-esteem while connecting students with natural surroundings. A school garden promotes the development of the whole child by encouraging a child-centered learning atmosphere.

We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic. What and how we feed our children teaches them about nutrition today and for the rest of their lives. A school garden is a natural catalyst to make changes in our students' eating habits. We plan to bring spring vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, onions and radishes to the salad bar before school dismisses and vegetables and fruits, such as tomatoes, squash and peppers, when the next school year begins. All students, staff and faculty will be encouraged to taste our produce.
