About the Program:

Our curriculum at Kershaw Magnet an International Baccalaureate World School focuses on having a balance between learning about the subject areas, and learning beyond them. By creating and growing a garden the students of our school will be able to go beyond the traditional learning into hands-on, inquiry based learning. The funds provided by this grant will allow us to purchase the lumber to make the garden boxes, the soil, seeds and supplies.

The students will learn responsibility and become a community built through the gardening. They will discover positive food attitudes and the importance of nutrition and physical health. We will learn about how the world works through the hands on experiences a garden creates. We will learn about the horticulture and the interaction between the natural world and human societies.

The students will learn how we can best share our planet with the world around us. Students will become connected with the natural world and the true source of their food. We will see how we prepare our food and share in this experience with those around us by working with the whole school community
