About the Program:

"Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping it's dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared." Tupac

70 out of 77 low-income people in urban Memphis lack access to a full-service supermarket and thus face challenges buying fruits and vegetables. The Green Wolverines and Overton High School wish to tackle this challenge and other environmental and health issues in our community. Our mission is to build awareness around these issues and promote change by creating a school garden, participating in our local agriculture community, and outreach within the OHS student body.

Our goal for the garden is to expand it from two beds to seven beds and implement an irrigation system so that more students are able to benefit from the garden and that the garden can be sustainable year-round.
