McKinley Elementary School
Our goal for the garden is to install and maintain a garden that provides our students and their families with extraordinary opportunities to learn about gardening, science, and nutrition. We want our garden to be an outdoor classroom where teachers and students learn about plants and health, in an engaging and hands on way. Our goal is for teachers to use the garden to teach exciting lessons to their classes, and to use the food the students grow to get them excited about healthy nutrition. We want teachers to be able to teach their students about science and gardening in ways that would have previously been impossible. Our goal is to involve families in the installation and maintenance of the garden and to encourage them to practice healthy eating habits with their children. We want the garden to be a center for families, students and teachers to gather and build community. Our goal is to incorporate the food the students grow in their garden into our breakfast and lunch programs. We want to introduce students to new fruits and vegetables and get them excited about growing their own food. Our goal is for our garden to change the lives of our students and their families. We want our students to be excited about healthy eating, to love gardening, and to learn from the garden.
