About the Program:

Recognizing that 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch program, our goal is to grow food in our school garden that low income families in our community can use. Students will learn how to grow food and be encouraged to start gardens at home.

Another goal is to teach seed-saving techniques that will produce pure seed for sustainability of our school garden as well as for student gardens at home.

We will add to our existing 3 boxes 15 square foot garden boxes measuring 4' x 8' each. We intend to grow a variety of heavy producing vegetables that are easily stored like onions, carrots, potatoes. We'll also include herbs and flowers to add aesthetic appeal that the art teacher intends to use for still-life drawing lessons.

This school garden will allow our students and members of our community to work together to create unity and sustainability during hard economic times. It will give hope and pride to many who are suffering because of job losses.
