About the Program:

The Monlux community, consisting of parents and teachers together, believes that a garden is an outdoor classroom where we can share valuable life lessons with our future. It is a tool that will help us build a stronger community. We live in a densely urban area where it is easy to lose our inherent connection to the earth. We will be growing and preparing our own food utilizing sustainable methods, with the hopes of sharing some of it with our cafeteria and those in need.

We will be enhancing our core curriculum, art, and nutrition programs. Our Math/Science/Technology Magnet teachers are excited to use the garden as a hands-on science lab. It will be place where we can introduce green science concepts like windmill generators and solar power.

Gardens can be a place to combat the ever-growing problem of bullying. We would instill a sense of pride and caring in our kids and our community, not only for the plants, but for each other.

This program is supported by John B. Monlux Elementary PTA.
