Woolman School
Our garden feeds and educates the students and staff of the Woolman Semester School and promotes our core values of peace, justice, and sustainability via interactions with the wider community. Most of the garden's 7,000 annual pounds of produce are used in our school kitchen; with it, interns, students and staff members cook three meals a day for between twenty and forty people at a time. Administrative staff, teachers, interns, students, and volunteers all help in the garden, learning as they do so how to grow food while caring for the land. In partnership with Live Healthy Nevada County, we host between 500 and 600 elementary and middle school students from nearby public schools each year; we also run a CSA program for members of the Grass Valley Friends Meeting. Our funds, however, are limited, and a Whole Foods grant would enable us to purchase the necessary equipment---such as wheelbarrows, a garden cart, and broadforks---to achieve these goals.
