About the Program:

*To provide highly engaging hands-on science education.

*To develop good nutritional habits and understanding of the importance of healthy eating.

*To involve students in service learning by donating a portion of our produce to our local food pantry.

*To teach students the importance of being good stewards of land and natural resources.

*To connect students with their own and each others' cultural backgrounds through food.

Our belief is that getting our students outside to work in the garden will also encourage them to live more physically active lives, and to help prevent obesity, diabetes, and other health issues which often plague low income populations.

With this grant, we would like to make permanent and beautiful signage for our garden, to further solidify its purpose and help with public awareness of the program as well as building and developing a composting program to use our cafeteria waste. We also look to expand our capacity to start our own plants indoors.
