Daniel Webster Elementary School
Daniel Webster Elementary School (DW) has two garden programs - an in school program, the Garden and Environmental Education Program, is taught by a paid, professional Garden Coordinator and provides students, grades K through 5 with instruction in gardening, composting, nutrition, and environmental stewardship. An after-school program, taught by community partner The Food Education Project, emphasizes four basic components: health, nutrition, food, and environment through a health curriculum model, which includes topics such as vitamins, seasonal foods and farming, health practices, and physical and environmental impact. This grant will support and maximize synergies between both programs by funding: - Supplies for a lesson plan on terrariums (charcoal, stones, containers, etc) - Soil tests for a lesson plan on soil, - The cost of goods for a salad bar lesson plan to serve to the entire school - Garden supplies (plants, plant labels, gardening tools, gloves and a wheelbarrow) This program is supported by .
