About the Program:

Gardening is an important part of the Waldorf curriculum. We have used container gardens, raised beds, and tilled in-ground gardens at our two school campuses to meet the school's gardening curriculum goals for our elementary, kindergarten, and pre-K students. Our school is expanding our kindergarten and pre-K program at our Meshewa campus to include daily kindergarten and nursery classes. Our goal is to provide a small greenhouse where these kindergarten and pre-K students, as well as elementary students who come from our other campus to use the gardens, can learn about and experience starting food plants and transplanting them into our existing garden plots. The greenhouse will also provide a sheltered place for gardening demonstrations and hands-on gardening projects. We will also build a composting system with the children so they can experience recycling this year's waste to make next year's compost and using it to improve the soil.
