About the Program:

Apple Seeds, Inc. upholds a mission to provide education and tools to enhance local food systems and support better nutrition for folks in Northwest Arkansas. Since 2009, we have been a school garden leader within the Fayetteville Public School District (FPSD). We currently support three school gardens and will begin supporting a fourth in Spring 2013.

The goal of our gardening program is to teach gardening skills and nutrition in a hands-on environment that reinforces classroom learning and encourages students to make healthy choices. Our program empowers students by giving them life-long skills to grow their own food and the knowledge to make good food choices; it also teaches the value of gardening as exercise.

This grant will lead to a fully sustainable program, by providing the much needed funding to continue supporting school gardens and outdoor classrooms in the FPSD. Funds will allow our students to have the necessary supplies to grow, eat, and learn about healthy food.

This program is supported by Apple Seeds, Inc..
