About the Program:

The goal of the Grassland garden is to provide an outdoor living, edible and nature-based learning environment and outdoor classroom opportunities for our school children. We envision a place where school children and teachers will have a pleasant outdoor space to conduct learning activities during the school day. Implementing a school garden will engage not only the students and their families, but will reach out to the larger community as a destination for all residents in the grassland community; through volunteering and working in the garden, parents, community members and children will experience healthy interactions with each other and with the natural environment. Further, by connecting the importance of agricultural gardening with curriculum, children can take ownership of their role in lifelong healthy eating habits, and our efforts will hopefully inspire other schools in our district to implement school gardens and outdoor learning spaces as well.
