About the Program:

Talman's community members want to grow things that we need in order to provide fresh vegetables and fruits to the school community. While we realize that process may be time-consuming and take a lot of planning, we are excited for the chance to become more self-sustainable by using our land to grow food. We realize that our school community struggles to rely on grocery stores that are scarce in our neighborhood, while we have unused soil that would be perfect for growing fruits and vegetables.

The purpose of creating a garden at Talman is to empower our community to care for and utilize the space in front of the school in a positive and helpful way. Our goals include increasing student and community access to fresh produce, increasing the student, staff, and community's awareness of the environment and environmental issues, and building a stronger community network to establish and extend pride for our school and children to the entire community and neighboring communities.
