About the Program:

The goal of the Sci Academy outdoor garden is to provide students, families, teachers, and community members with a beautiful and functional space on campus for educational and social activities. Through our garden, we will teach our scholars about the benefits of local and sustainable food, the environmental impact of farming and gardening, and the therapeutic effects of working outdoors to produce something useable and resourceful. While all students will have the opportunity to work in the garden, our garden will provide a special opportunity for our special needs students, and those with emotional, cognitive, and behavioral exceptionalities. Through garden work, these students will explore the therapeutic effects of working with the earth and learning about planting. Teachers at Sci Academy will use the garden to teach students about the weather cycle and photosynthesis, and all students will have the opportunity to spend time working in the garden, learning about how to care for plants, how to garden and farm, and how to cook with the harvested goods. The Sci Academy garden will give our community and our school a multi-use facility for student engagement and hands-on learning.
