The garden will help Wayne Metro empower students and community residents to:

1) Increase student engagement with fresh fruits and vegetables through hands-on gardening activities;

2) Increase student academic achievement through gardening activities that reinforce school curriculum;

3) Increase student leadership and life skills through gardening activities tied to service-learning;

4) Increase student understanding of hunger and local poverty while impacting the community served through produce donated to low-income persons and local food pantries; and,

5) Beautify the surrounding neighborhood and create a shared sense of community in an area marred by poverty and urban blight.

This program is supported by Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency.
